Carol Gilmore was Director of Joint Commission International (JCI), the international consulting branch of the Joint Commission until May 1995. She directed Joint Commission International projects commissioned by: USAID, Saudi Arabia, and the U.S. Peace Corps in more than 70 countries.

Before her years in international quality improvement, Ms. Gilmore worked in diverse responsibilities in the Joint Commission including as Director of the Department of Accreditation Decision Processing. This included overseeing the processing of accreditation evaluations and presenting unfavorable accreditation evaluation results to the Board of Directors of The Joint Commission.

Ms. Gilmore now works independently helping organizations become safer.    She helps organizations navigate the accreditation process and build on existing strengths. Accreditation standards become understood through workshops, presentations, meetings with executive leadership of health care organizations and ministries of health.

Ms. Gilmore has a Master of Management from  Kellogg Business School, Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois. She received her professional degree in Clinical Nutrition from the University of Illinois Health Sciences Center in Chicago and is a Registered Dietitian.
